The Consulta is the advisory body of the Cardinal Grand Master. Its proposals are part of the decision-making process on the most important issues concerning the Order.
Every four years, under the chairmanship of the Cardinal Grand Master, all the highest offices of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre (the Grand Magisterium with the Lieutenants and Magistral Delegates), together with a representative of the Secretariat of State and one from the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, meet to discuss and reflect on common issues concerning the life of the Order in all its peripheral structures.
The Consulta in 2023 focused on the theme of ‘Formation.’ This relates to all members, from the time they begin their initial formation in discerning their call to join the Order, to the then ongoing formation for all members as they remain in the Order.
Around 200 leaders from 40 countries prayed and worked from 6 to 10 November. Each day began with morning Mass presided over by the Grand Master H.E. Cardinal Fernando Filoni and on the third day by H.E. Mgr. Caputo.
A poignant speech from the Grand Prior H.E.Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, O.F.M. via video link in Jerusalem on the impact the war in Gaza is having on all those living there and beyond reinforced the importance of the Order’s work in supporting our brothers and sisters living in the Holy Land.
Finally, an audience with The Holy Father Pope Francis was both moving and uplifting. A truly unforgettable experience.
You can view all the events, articles, and videos from the Consulta on the website www.oessh.va at ‘Special Focus – Consulta’.
I am extremely grateful for having the opportunity to take part in this significant gathering of the Order. It enabled me to appreciate the importance of the work we are called to do in service of our Lord. Manaaki te Atua – God Bless
